Uprising is the first expansion for Sentinel Tactics. It introduces three new heroes, three new villains and four new scenarios.

Sentinel Tactics Uprising Description:

This post is going to focus on the new elements added in the Uprising expansion. I am going to assume you know the basic gameplay and rules of Sentinel Tactics going forward. If you are unfamiliar with the rules of the base game, read my overview and review here.

Uprising adds three new heroes, Beacon, Unity and Visionary. Beacon is a beatstick, Unity uses her bots to take down villains and Visionary supports the heroes while messing with the opposition.

This expansion also introduces three new villains to the series, Ambuscade, The Operative and Proletariat. Ambuscade rains down mayhem from afar. The Operative deals a good amount of damage and can poison enemies. And Proletariat makes copies of himself and swarms his opponents.

There are four new scenarios too. The first pits the heroes against The Operative and lasts just six rounds. It is a race to control the map tiles. Each tile with more with underbosses than heroes is controlled by the villains and if they control four or more, they win. The second scenario lets you use the monorail. The villain is Ambuscade and he is trying to destroy Freedom Tower. The heroes must destroy the monorail before it hits the tower or derails. In the third scenario pits the heroes against Proletariat. He is trying to get three oblivion shards and bring them to an extraction point. The heroes must escort six civilians to a different extraction point to win. At the same time a life-draining mist moves ever closer. If it moves too far across the board it can eliminate both the heroes and villains. The last scenario is an all-out brawl between the three heroes and three villains. Each time a character is incapacitated the other team gains a VP. The first team to five VPs wins. This scenario is influenced by how the results of the first three.

A Quick Review of Sentinel Tactics Uprising:

Uprising is mostly more of the same for Sentinel Tactics which if you like the game is a good thing. The new elements all add replay value to the series.

The components are on par with those in the original game. The only new rule is poison so there is little new to learn to play this expansion.

I like the new characters and how they play differently than those in the original game. Ambuscade is a favorite of mine so it is nice to get him in this expansion.

The new scenarios are good to have too. They are not retreads of the original scenarios and are fun and interesting. Maybe my love of Ambuscade is clouding my vision, but the monorail scenario is great.

If you own Flame of Freedom and have played through the scenarios, then Sentinel Tactics Uprising is a must-buy. If you have yet to play all the scenarios in the original but like the characters introduced in this expansion, you should pick up.
