Munchkin Axe Cop Review

Munchkin Axe CopStats:
No. of players: 3-6
Amount of time to play: 60-120 min
Age requirements: 8+
Set-up time: minimal

Munchkin Axe Cop Rules Description:

Axe Cop is a web comic. Munchkin is a take that card game. Combine the two and you get Munchkin Axe Cop. How does this mix turn out and should you get it?

To win Munchkin Axe Cop you must be the first player to reach level 10. You start the game at level 1.

The Axe Cop version of Munchkin has gameplay similar to the other ones. On your turn you open a door by drawing a Door Card. If you draw a monster card you must fight it. You win if your level and bonuses are greater than the monster’s level and bonuses. Your opponents can play cards to buff you or the monster. Winning advances your level and gets you some treasure. Losing in a fight forces you to run away. You must roll a 5 or 6 to run away or deal with Bad Stuff like losing a level, losing powers or dropping items.

If the first Door Card you draw is not a monster you can either draw another one into your hand or fight a monster from your hand.

You may also gain levels by selling treasure you collect. Each item has a price and for every $1000 you sell, you gain a level. You cannot sell items to reach level 10 and win. Level 10 may only be gained by defeating a monster.

You may also gain a power, class or allies that help you fight. In Munchkin Axe Cop you may sacrifice your ally to avoid Bad Stuff.

So if you have played Munchkin before the changes made in this version are minimal.

Quick Munchkin Axe Cop Review:

Like I said Axe Cop is a web comic. It is illustrated by a 29 year old and written by his 6 year old little brother. As you can imagine, this results in some crazy scenarios characters and stories. Munchkin is an excellent format for this wackiness and the two complement each other well.

The components are high quality and the cards are in color (unlike some other versions of Munchkin). The rules are easy to read and follow and you can teach this game easily.

I had not read Axe Cop prior to getting this game, but have read some now. If you are a fan of the web comic you should enjoy this game a lot. In fact ff you enjoy either Axe Cop or Munchkin you should pick this up. The two complement each other and will create many funny moments for you and your friends.
