The Warlock and Priestess expansions for Mage Wars Academy add more wizards, creatures and spells to the series.

Warlock and Priestess Expansions Description:

The Warlock and Priestess expansions introduce to new mages that play differently from those in the base game and each other. If you have not played the base game, you can read about the basic gameplay and read my review of Mage Wars Academy here. The rest of this post is going to focus on the things introduced in Warlock and Priestess expansions.

The Warlock deals in dark magic. He summons demons to do his bidding and can injure them to make them more dangerous. Once per round he can deal one direct damage to a friendly demon to let it re-roll its attack dice. He also has a decent number of direct damage spells that can set their target on fire.

The Priestess uses holy magic to heal and buff her creatures. Any healing or protection spells she casts lets her place a guard token on a friendly holy creature. It just costs that creature’s level in mana. Her ability to heal and protect her minions can keep them in the game longer than you’d expect.

As usual you are given a recommended spell list to get you started quickly. The new expansions also include cards so you can tweak the Warlock and Priestess to your liking and play style.

Quick Review of Mage Wars Academy Warlock and Priestess Expansions:

I really enjoy Mage Wars Academy and having two new mages to fight with is great. Both the Warlock and Priestess are good additions to the series and fun to play.

The cards and tokens are good quality and the art on them looks good too. The components are in line with those from the rest of the series. A nice touch is the order of the cards in the packs. One pack contains all the spells from the recommended spell list. This makes it super easier to slip them into a spell book and get right to playing.

If you own Mage Wars Academy the Warlock and Priestess expansions are almost a must buy. Even if you don’t buy both you should pick up one of these expansions. They add more variety and spells to your Mage Academy games which add to its replay value and your fun.
