Dominion + Alchemy + Promos Session Report

Dominion Card GameThese three games used a random supply from Dominion, Dominion: Alchemy and all the Promos.

The Supply consisted of: (view cards here)
Alchemist, Apprentice, Black Market, Chapel, Envoy, Familiar, Market, Moat, Village, Woodcutter

Upon looking at this Supply I was totally thinking Chapel strategy. This involves trashing your Estates and Copper after buying Silver then buying Gold and trashing your Silver. Your deck stays small and has a high concentration of Treasure. All that changed when Jeff bought a Black Market and purchased a Thief. A Thief is tough on a Chapel deck because he takes all your treasure. So I switched gears a bit thinking a few Familiars could help slow my opponents down and keep me ahead. I was wrong. I never had the treasure to buy a Province and didn’t trash enough Curses (from Jim’s Familiars) to win.

Jim – 18
Jeff – 5

This time I figured I’d try the same Chapel strategy but not to waiver. I bought a couple Markets when I had 5 treasure, but other than that stuck with thinning my deck and upgrading my treasure. The result was much better and more like I expected.

Jeff – 24

We decided we should try another random Supply.

The Supply consisted of: (view cards here)
Chancellor, Envoy, Gardens, Money Lender, Possession, Spy, University, Village, Vineyard, Witch

As soon as I saw the Gardens, Vineyard and University, I knew what to try to build from this Supply. I figured lots of cards with many being actions gained from the University and a few Gardens. I especially thought that using the Witch as the card gained from the University would keep me ahead. No cards in the Supply gave an extra Buy which would have helped immensely. This was a tough game with all the Curses being used and clogged hands everywhere. I was close but didn’t win. Instead Jim and Jeff tied.

Scores:
Me – 17
Meredith – 9
Jim – 19
Jeff – 19

Since I was so close the first time I figured I try basically the same strategy. This time I bought only one University and a couple Witches. I also added a Chancellor since cash seemed tight the first time through. There were some other differences too. Everyone bought less Witches (as Jim and Jeff preferred the Spy), I bought a lot more Gardens and I won!

Scores:
Me – 20
Meredith – 7
Jim – 10
Jeff – 10

The next Supply consisted of: (view cards here)
Alchemist, Festival, Golem, Laboratory, Moat, Scrying Pool, Transmute, Woodcutter, Village, Vineyard

A few of us had the same idea use Transmute to get some Gold from Estates. Then buy some Vineyards and Provinces for VPs. I thought adding Woodcutter, Golem and Moats would help and it almost did. Brian bought mostly money and won.

Scores:
Me – 32
Brian – 36
Jim – 24
Jeff – 18

The second time using this Supply I thought I’d tweak things just a little. I bought 2 Woodcutters, more Villages and added one more Potion. I also bought many Moats. Playing Golem to reveal Village/Moat was getting me through a bunch of my deck. The tweaking worked and I pulled out the win!

Scores:
Me – 38
Brian – 34
Jim – 27
Jeff – 22
