Top Ten Board Games I was Introduced to in 2010

I played a lot of games in 2010 and wanted to focus on the ones that I was introduced to last year. Note that not all these games were published last year. Some are older. But last year was the first time I played them!

Here are the top ten games I was introduced to in 2010:

10. Dominion: Alchemy – This is a fun expansion for Dominion. The theme is pretty good, but long action chains and deck-counting keep it from being higher on the list.

9. World of Warcraft: the Board Game – Although long the character development in this game is excellent.

8. Drakon – Easy to teach fun to play and enjoyable by gamers and non-gamers alike.

7. Civilization: the Board Game – Another long game that has some good strategy and variable ways to win.

6. Space Hulk: Death Angel – This co-op card game is fun and tense. Unfortunately eliminated players must watch and it is a bit complex to teach quickly.

5. Dominion: Prosperity – Another Dominion expansion. The addition of Colonies, Platinum and more treasure cards are great.

4. BattleLore – Finally got this light war game. It is a lot of fun, but takes a long time to set up and the dice can sometimes control the game.

3. Galaxy Trucker – Both unique and fun. Build ships, go on flights and watch the carnage ensue.

2. Space Alert – This co-op game is unique, innovative, tense and fun. A bit complex but fits a niche with its real-time decision making and soundtrack driven gameplay.

1. Race for the Galaxy – I know this has been around a while, but I just got it this year. Believe me I wish I’d have bought it sooner. Fairly complex, but very enjoyable, its relatively short play time and various paths to victory keep it hitting the table and the top of this list.

What games did you play for the first time this year and how much did you enjoy them? Add your thoughts in the comments section.
