Dungeons and Dragons – Wyvern Mountain – Session 3

The heroes make camp near the abandoned tower and the night goes by uneventfully. The next morning they proceed up Wyvern Mountain on the Smugglers Road.

Near mid-morning the group path is blocked by a landslide. Upon inspection it seems the landslide happened long ago. Tony also notices a group of stones near the edge of the boulders that seem purposefully placed there. Render and Donaar move the large rocks to find a tunnel that leads into the cliff face. They head cautiously down the corridor and Orsik and Tony follow. Auidar changes to rat form and stands guard at the entrance.

The tunnel ends in a small smelly room. It seems to be recently lived in but no one is currently home. Upon inspection the party finds some papers in the bottom of a bedroll. One is a wanted poster with a reward for an ogre, Tenozak Dreadbane, and another contains rough sketches and handwriting.

The adventurers climb over the boulders and continue up the mountain. The longer they travel the steeper the road becomes. When they feel as if they cannot keep walking the path levels out. Shortly they come across a gate that looks similar to the rough sketch they found in the bedroll. After looking over the sketch a bit longer they notice a secret passage is marked near the top of the steps leading to the gate. Auidar goes up to investigate and finds one of the large statues beside the gate is hollow. He pushes the statue and it moves revealing a passage.

Exiting the passage the group comes across a large force of goblins. The goblins were not expecting guests so the heroes surprise them. Donaar breaths acid and Auidar puts up a wall of thorns dividing the enemies into two groups. Orsik and Render charge into battle and Tony positions himself to snipe the opposition.

Orsik and Donaar double team a goblin dropping him before he can even act. Render make two devastating hits and drops two goblins moving to hit a third. Auidar uses a chill wind to move a goblin to a less than favorable position.

Two goblins on a landing at the top of the stairs disappear and return with oil and a torch. They burn the wall of thorns. The other goblins throw javelins at the party and take defensive positions on the stairs.

Orsik and Donaar begin working on taking out the goblins at the bottom of the stairs. Render on the other hand jumps and grabs the railing then pulls himself up onto the top level. He begins slashing at goblins in his way. Tony hits a goblin at the top of the stairs that looks like a witchdoctor. He retaliates as lightning bursts from his hands hitting Orsik and Render, but just missing Donaar.

Auidar pulls a goblin over the railing with chill wind and Tony finishes him off. Donaar bull rushes another pushing him to the ground below. Orsik strikes another who falls dead.

The witchdoctor is alone and fights as best he can striking Render with his mace. But soon the party has him surrounded on the upper level. Auidar charges him for a hit, followed by Donaar and then he is finished by Orsik.

DM Notes:
This time I used all the upgrades the adventure suggested for higher level PCs and it went better. The PCs were challenged and we all had fun. The only issue was by adding goblins to the encounter the room was really full. The PCs and monsters had little room to move.
