Dominion: Alchemy – Forbidden Arts Session Report

Dominion AlchemyOver the holiday weekend I got to play a few games of Dominion. I think I have tried all the suggested decks except Forbidden Arts, so we tried it out.

The Supply consisted of:
Apprentice, Familiar, Possession, University, Cellar, Council Room, Gardens, Laboratory, Thief, & Throne Room

We only played two games with this setup and I kind of felt that was enough. I even won the first game, but it wasn’t all that enjoyable. Seeing my opponents cringe each time I played a couple Familiars on my turn wasn’t really that awesome. No one ever had the money to buy a Province as the Thief managed to take treasure out of everyone’s decks. Both games ended with three piles being depleted (one being the Curses). I thought Gardens/University could be nice for adding more points by adding more cards. Kim bought a few Familiars too so I had my share of curses. So the scoring was low. My Familiar/Thief/Gardens/University combo did well enough to win.

Scores:
Me – 9
Kim – 4
Chris – -5

This time I tried a similar strategy but I made a point to buy more money. Unfortunately I always had decent options for Gold and passed over a couple Familiars. I got into them too late and took more Curses than I gave. Kim won big.  She bought more money, removed some curses and got good draws.

Scores:
Me – 18
Kim – 41
Chris – 26
